Heading in a very different direction, Toy Story 2 will be shown on Thursday, September 27th in Gedung PPI Lab B. This will be The SAC Movie’s first animated film and will provide a refreshingly different backdrop for our discussion. Although an animated film, this movie is not just some simple story for children. Not only did it win a Golden Globe award from Best Picture, but it is also one of the highest rated movies of all-time and has a perfect 100% rating on the Rotten Tomatoes review website. Comments from film critics have been things such as, “There’s not a single moment of this film that’s not wildly imaginative and utterly delightful,” along with “Not only is it just as visually stunning and witty as the first, but it’s funnier, more thoughtful and more grown-up,” and even “One of the most uplifting, funny, and joyous film experiences I have had in a long time.”
Things to watch for and think about:
- The imagery (what is so great…or not so great?)
- Can we still identify with what the characters are experiencing?
- What is grown-up about this film? What isn’t?
- Purpose and the future in our lives
- What does the film suggest is important in life?
- What does the film say about consumerism, mass production, and our commodity-based global culture?
- Identity and Uniqueness
You can watch the trailers for the movie at Pixar’s website.
Let the discussion begin!
