About The SAC Movie

The SAC Movie is a weekly movie (currently every Thursday at 2:00 PM) shown by the English Department at Brawijaya University and Bastra’s Student Access Center. The movie is free and can be attended by anyone from Brawijaya University, including teachers and staff.

The movie is first of all an attempt to give students another medium with which to develop their English ability. Perhaps more importantly though, it is meant to promote discussion about important issues in the world and in our lives. It is also an effort to encourage students to support movies that are made with the intention of provoking discussion, challenging its viewers, and/or providing something new and unique to film.

With this in mind, we try to chose movies that are not just big budget “Hollywood” movies but instead ones where there is something more powerful and more unique behind them. We are also generally looking to show films which most students may have not seen before, again in another attempt to bring them something new and different. We want to provide entertainment, but we also want to challenge people.

Although The SAC Movie is an English centered activity, we will at times screen movies which were made in other languages.
